Wintry Weather Brings Holiday Events And More To North Beach
Wine Walk Returns - Forum On Homelessness Convenes
By Joe Bonadio
The first day of December may have been Saturday, but it didn't really kick in until today: When I emerged from my apartment this morning here in North Beach, the air temperature was a bracing forty-four degrees. As I retreated inside to swap jackets, I realized the time had come to bid farewell to our stubbornly warm weather–at least for a little while. And I say, Bring it on! We're already spoiled enough in our cozy little enclave. And living as we do in California, we desperately need the cold air to distract us from the palm trees and remind us all that yes, the holidays are coming.
We've got a couple happenings to report on this week, so let's get to it. This Friday, December 7th, the neighborhood will once again host the North Beach Wine Walk. This time around, the Wine Walk will be celebrating the immigrants from around the world who have helped shape San Francisco over the years. If you haven't participated in the event before, it's a great way to meet some of the neighborhood's best retailers; shops like Z Cioccolato, Lola, and Cole Hardware will be opening their shops after normal hours, and hosting local vintners to pour samples of their tastiest wines for attendees. If that sounds like fun, be assured it is.
Things get started at 5:00 pm this Friday, and run until 9 p.m. Presale tickets are $30, and your wristband entitles you to wine tasting and other treats along the route (including special deals on some of the neighborhood's best pizza). It's a great event, so make sure to join us. You can get your tickets here.
On an entirely different tip, North Beach Citizens will host an open discussion on homelessness this Thursday at 6:00 p.m. The event will be held at North Beach Citizens Research Center at 1034 Kearny Street, and is sponsored by the North Beach Citizens Young Professionals Association and Telegraph Hill Dwellers. Of course, this subject is top of mind for all North Beach residents, so we encourage you to attend this important event. Admission is free, and refreshments will be provided. See you there!
